Privacy Policy
1. Information We Collect
- Personal Data: name, phone number, email address, and location data, collected when you register or use the app.
- Emergency & Incident Data: details of any alert you raise, including the type of incident, time, location, and any voice, photo, or document attachments you choose to submit.
- Usage Data: app activity logs, alerts triggered, and communications with the command center.
- Device Data: device type, operating system, network information, and app version, collected for security, reliability, and troubleshooting.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To transmit your emergency alert, in real time, to the Chusec/Security command center for triage and onward routing.
- To relay verified incident details and your location to the relevant responding authority — including state security corps, the Nigeria Police Force, and the National 112 Emergency Communications Centre, military structures so a response can be coordinated.
- To verify user identity and reduce misuse of the emergency reporting system.
- To improve app reliability, performance, and user experience.
- To comply with lawful requests from law enforcement and our legal obligations under Nigerian law.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
We process your personal data on the following lawful bases recognised under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023:
- Consent — for optional features such as the Family Circle location-sharing tier.
- Performance of a contract — to provide the core emergency-alert service you request when you use Chusec.
- Vital interest — to protect your life or physical safety, or that of another person, during an active emergency.
- Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose information to a competent authority under Nigerian law.
4. Data Sharing
- With responding authorities: your location and incident details are shared with the state security agency, police command, or emergency center best placed to respond, strictly for the purpose of responding to your alert.
- With law enforcement: information may be shared to support the investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of suspects, consistent with Nigerian law.
- With service providers: limited data may be shared with cloud hosting, messaging, and analytics providers who process data on our behalf under written confidentiality and data-processing agreements. We do not sell your personal data.
5. Data Protection & Security
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard protocols. Chusec uses transport layer encryption (TLS) with cryptographic hashing (bcrypt) and HMAC-SHA256 authenticated sessions.
- Access to personal and incident data is restricted to authorized personnel and systems on a need-to-know basis.
- We conduct regular security reviews and comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and applicable regulations issued by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).
6. Cross-Border Data Transfers
Where any personal data is processed or stored outside Nigeria — for example, by a cloud infrastructure provider — such transfer will only take place where permitted under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, including through an adequacy recognition, standard contractual clauses, or another lawful transfer mechanism, and with appropriate safeguards in place.
7. Data Retention
- Incident and emergency-response data is retained for as long as necessary to support investigation, prosecution, or legal proceedings, and in any event no longer than required by applicable law.
- Account and usage data not connected to an active or unresolved incident is retained only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected, and is deleted or anonymised after a defined period of account inactivity.
8. Your Rights Under the NDPA
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your data, subject to our legal obligation to retain certain incident records.
- Withdraw consent for optional features at any time.
- Request data portability.
- Lodge a complaint directly with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) if you believe your data protection rights have been violated.
9. Children's Privacy
Chusec is intended for users aged 16 and above. Where a younger user needs to raise an emergency alert, a parent or guardian should register and manage the account on the minor's behalf. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children outside this arrangement without appropriate consent.
10. Device Permissions
Chusec requests the following device permissions, each used strictly for the stated purpose:
- Location (including background location during an active alert) — to transmit your position to responders in real time.
- Microphone — to record and transmit voice reports.
- Camera and storage — to attach photo or document evidence to a report, at your choice.
- Notifications — to alert you to case status updates.
You may decline optional permissions, though doing so may limit specific features, such as photo attachment or live location sharing during an alert.
11. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach likely to result in a risk to your rights or freedoms, we will notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission and affected users without undue delay, in line with our obligations under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email before they take effect.
